Assessments
Assessments in a balanced literacy program and in my classroom will be an equal balance of formal and informal assessments to accurately assess each student’s strength, weaknesses and level of learning. At the beginning of the year I will need to assess each student to identify their level of prior knowledge and reading skills. The assessment tool I will use is inquiry by asking critical thinking questions to guide the students understanding of text content and reading for comprehension. Throughout the year I will continue to evaluate students by keeping running records of students reading, formal assessments and informal assessments and comparing the student’s growth of reading comprehension and independent reading.
